Galata Museum of the Sea

Do you have a camper, do you want to visit Genoa and the Galata Museo del Mare and do you need a place to stay from where you can reach the center with public transport?

The right solution is the camping Villa Doria, in the district of Genoa Pegli, which is at 9 kilometers from the city center. Here you will feel safe and you will have free access to the wifi network, free hot showers and electricity. You will be given a map of the city of Genoa and you will receive all the information you will need to organize your visit.

Where

The Galata Museo del Mare of Genoa is located in the city center, in the Porto Antico area. From Villa Doria you can walk 600 meters on foot to take the regional train from Genova Pegli station, and in 20 minutes you will find yourself just 150 meters from the museum. At the campsite you will be provided with all the directions to reach the museum and you can buy tickets for public transport at reception.

The museum

The Galata Museo del Mare is housed in the oldest building of the old Darsena, which was the Arsenal of the Republic of Genoa. The exhibition is distributed over 5 floors and you will also be able to visit the S518 Nazario Sauro submarine, which is one of the main attractions of the museum: it is the largest Italian submarine that can be visited by water. Inside the museum you can get on board a galley of 600 and a brigantine schooner of the 800 (faithful reconstructions). Your child will be able to obtain the submarine sailor certificate and you can all together discover life on board, the lodgings of the non-commissioned officers and learn a lot about Italian emigration by sea. There is also a room dedicated to Christopher Columbus where there are also important nautical instruments such as the astrolabe, the hourglass for half an hour, the nautical quadrant and the balestrigia.
Highly recommended.
